What is USPS Ground Advantage?

The United States Postal Service (USPS) recently introduced a new product offering known as USPS Ground Advantage. This service is designed to supersede the existing First-Class Package Service category, providing a 2 - 5 day service standard for packages weighing up to 70 pounds. This initiative is part of USPS's broader strategy to enhance its shipping offerings and simplify package options for consumers and businesses of all sizes.

Over the past year, USPS has been committed to enhancing its package offerings. This commitment has manifested in improved service reliability, reduced prices, and simplified shipping product offerings. As a result, shipping rates for USPS Retail Ground products have decreased by 7 percent, while rates for Parcel Select Ground have seen a reduction of 12 percent on average. These lowered rates have been in effect since January 2022.

In addition to lower prices, USPS has also improved reliability by upgrading service standards for its USPS Retail Ground and Parcel Select Ground products. These service standards have been aligned with the current First-Class Package Service product within the contiguous United States, accelerating from 2 - 8 days to 2 - 5 days at the same affordable price.

So, what does this mean for Rush Order's DTC/ecommerce clients? The introduction of USPS Ground Advantage signifies a more streamlined, reliable, and cost-effective shipping option. However, it's important to note that this new service is essentially a combination of Parcel Select and First Class, meaning it doesn't offer any significant differences compared to using these existing services separately.

That said, Rush Order offers even more affordable shipping options than these services. By leveraging our extensive carrier relationships and logistics expertise, we're able to provide cost-effective shipping solutions that meet the unique needs of our clients.
